Founder Inducted as Board Member with Cambridge Arts Assocation

I’m excited to share with you this morning that I, Marcus Johnson-Smith, have been inducted as the newest board member for the Cambridge Arts Association! As a lifelong Cantabridgian with the arts at the center of my professional work, I couldn’t be more happier with this honor to provide nonprofit governing leadership for an organization representing artists from the community I love.
Read below to learn a little bit more about the organization.
About the Cambridge Arts Association:
The purpose of the Cambridge Arts Assocation, a non-profit educational organization, is to foster an interest in the Fine Arts and Crafts in the community, and to provide a place for appropriate activities and events designed to promote fellowship among the members – Cambridge Art Association Mission StatementSince 1944, the Cambridge Art Association has been committed to exhibiting and promoting the work of regional, New England artists.

As we approach our 70th year, the Cambridge Art Association begins to tell a new story, while holding true to the tenets of our founders to “foster an interest in the fine arts.” What do I mean when I say a “new story”? As the new director of this robust organization, I hope to bridge the strengths of Cambridge Art Association’s past with the possibilities of our future. I hope to strengthen and expand the community of artists we support; to support much needed access to the visual arts that is missing in our schools; and most of all, to celebrate the rich visual heritage of our home, the City of Cambridge.

While remaining focused on our core exhibitions, Cambridge Art Association will continue to expand our programmatic offerings, building on the success of our recent workshops (with artists like Kim Bernard) and CREATE IT! Nights. As an organization, we will also reach deeper into the community, partnering at times with other arts agencies to strength the creative capital of our region while extending the reach of CAA into new constituencies.
